"Your Cheatin' Heart" Released Today!

Your Cheatin Heart Low Res.jpg

For your Valentine's Day enjoyment, I am officially releasing my version of Hank Williams' "Your Cheatin' Heart!" Thanks to The Boot for sharing the track and describing it as "a lush, yearning take that does Hank Sr. proud."

I've always been drawn to dark, sad songs and Hank Williams is the king of these. Country music often highlights the pitfalls of our human behavior, the heartache and pain that some of us just seem more prone to in life.

This is one of the first Hank Williams songs I covered with a band, and I've been playing it at my live shows for years now. I'm proud to finally release it into the world and hope you enjoy my take on this classic.

Download or stream "Your Cheatin' Heart" on iTunes, Spotify, Google Play Music or any other outlet of your choosing. Enjoy!

The Boot's 2018 Artist to Watch!

I'm honored that The Boot has named me one of their "2018 Artists to Watch!" Alongside this recognition, they had kind words to say about me and my music:

Since the release of her debut album To Know Where in 2011, Michaela Anne has been making people take notice. With introspective songwriting, Anne showed a propensity for vulnerable, true-to-life songs that revealed an artist poised to accomplish even more...On Bright Lights, Anne’s lyrical wit still takes front and center, but now, her songs are infused with a heavy dose of edge, moving seamlessly from honky-tonk barn-burners to personal ballads that seem straight from the pages of her diary. In many ways, the album is Anne’s way of welcoming listeners into her music, just as she was welcomed into Music City. - CH, The Boot

2017 Recap!

2017 has been a wild ride. Some highlights include getting to sing at Carnegie Hall with Ron Pope, touring Europe for the very first time, touring more than I ever have in my life, and playing in Sam Outlaw's band!

I've played over 130 shows in 10 different countries, driven and flown thousands of miles, and made a lot of beautiful new friends. I can't thank all of you enough who have come out to the shows and bought or streamed my music. You're the reason I'm able to do this.

Thank you, happy holidays, happy new year and here's to new music in 2018!

New Single, "One Love Song," Released!

Michaela Anne - One Love Song cover.jpg

My new tune, "One Love Song," is officially out in the world! You can find it on SpotifyiTunes, Google Play Music, or any other outlet of your choosing. Many thanks to Rolling Stone for premiering the track (they beautifully sum up the track below)! You can check out the song and read their full review here.

"Some people need quiet conversation or a long walk on the beach to sow the seeds of love - and others just need to dance. That phenomenon of the right song setting the heart afire is chronicled by Michaela Anne on her new track... 'One Love Song' is classic country for the modern age, where a little George Jones on the jukebox can drown out even the loudest mobile alerts."

This song is particularly special to me because honky tonks, country music and dancing have always had a big presence in my life. I wrote this song with my friend Maya de Vitry from the band the Stray Birds, and we intentionally wanted to try and capture that feeling of falling in love in a bar, over a dance, Urban Cowboy style. It's inspired by the notion of how quickly things can change in ones heart and through music. For me, it's a song of romantic hope, set in a dirty, dim lit bar with George Jones' aching voice as the soundtrack.

This past year I've been touring a lot with Sam Outlaw who's based in Los Angeles so I've been going to CA more often and been working with a lot of the musicians who play or have played in his band. I got together with a group of those musicians to record the tune out in Echo Park since we'd been playing it together. It features Elijah Ocean and Molly Jenson on vocals, Stephen Musselman on guitar, Aaron Goodrich on drums and Dan Destiny on fiddle.

"'One Love Song' showcases Anne's delicate vocal power, which can range from a strong, heartstring-tugging belt to a plainspoken whisper alongside her gift for simple, cutting lyrics. 'It only takes one love song,' she sings as the fiddle wails along and the drummer marches in a soft shuffle." -Rolling Stone

Won't You Be My Neighbor EP for World Refugee Day

Earlier this year, I had the chance to contribute vocals (along with Josh Ritter, Sean Watkins, the Mastersons, and more!) to my friend Anthony D'Amato's new EP, Won't You Be My Neighbor. It's a collection of songs where 100% of the sales will be donated to the International Rescue Committee (IRC), a group that is working to help refugees worldwide. Today is World Refugee Day, so if you feel so inspired to make a small difference, you can give the collection a listen and purchase here

"Easier Than Leaving" Single Release + Sam Outlaw Tour Starts!

Today I kick off my North American tour with Sam Outlaw and I'm releasing an acoustic, live version of my song "Easier Than Leaving."

This version of "Easier Than Leaving" is a stripped down, live take from underneath the willow trees at my previous home in Nashville, TN. I always said I would record someday underneath the willows in the quiet of my backyard and this song was the last chance I had before the willow trees were torn down to make room for new development.

I'm fortunate to be joined by some amazing musicians and friends (Kristin Weber on fiddle and Erin Rae on harmony vocals) who perform with me one last time under the trees.

Rolling Stone called it a "brokenhearted ballad that measures the distance between honesty and heartbreak." You can find the song via iTunes, Spotify, Google Play Music, or any other outlet of your choosing today! AND you can catch me (and Sam Outlaw) at one of the cities below!
